Tama City is located at the northern end of the Tama Hills, with a terrain that slopes downward from the southwest to the northeast, resulting in a large difference in elevation and a landscape rich in nature.
Located about 30 to 35 km from the center of Tokyo, the area is well-connected by transportation, including the Odakyu Line, Keio Line, and Tama Monorail.
Tama New Town is also known as one of the largest new towns in Japan, and the area around Tama Center Station, its center, is characterized by beautiful greenery, large parks, and easy access via pedestrian-only roads.
The city is rich in nature, and its proportion of parks is among the highest in Tokyo.

▶History and Culture

After the period of rapid economic growth, the area was developed based on urban planning, and is now home to the natural surroundings of the Tama Hills, peaceful residential areas, and large commercial facilities.
It developed as a post town from the Kamakura period, and played an important role as a supplier of goods to Edo Castle during the Edo period. The Keio Line was opened in the Taisho period, and it developed as a commuter town after the war.
