Statue of Hanako the Elephant
Hanako the elephant was the first elephant to come to Japan after the Second World War. She was kept at the Inokashira Park Zoo from 22 and became a popular animal. She broke the record for the oldest Asian elephant in Japan and passed away in 1947. However, thanks to donations from Musashino citizens and people all over Japan, a bronze statue of her was erected in the plaza in front of the north exit of Kichijoji Station in 28.
◆Musashino Eco Resort
This environmental awareness facility was built by renovating and reusing part of the old Musashino Clean Center (a waste treatment facility) following the rebuild of the facility. You can think about, learn about, and experience things related to the environment, including energy, greenery, the water cycle, and biodiversity. At the neighboring Musashino Clean Center, you can observe the waste treatment process through large windows. Why not visit both facilities together?
